Urban Search and Rescue training in collapsed buildings with the Hellenic Air Force Urban Search and Rescue training in collapsed buildings with the Hellenic Air Force

EPOMEA members from across Greece have successfully concluded their training with the KOMAK (Mobile Disaster Management Unit) team of the Hellenic Air Force and the KΟΣΥΘΕ (Mobile Maintenance Unit of Submarine Facilities) of the 206 ΠΑΥ (Air Force Infrastructure Wing of the HAF). Twenty eight members of the EPOMEA family were trained to heavy rescue machinery, extricating victims under collapsed structures and rope rescue, whilst the divers of KΟΣΥΘΕ informed the members of the Water Rescue team about the nature of work diving and the diving communication systems. We would like to thank the Brigade Commander of the 206 ΠΑΥ Mr. Beldekos George, the Squadron leader of Mobile teams, Mr. Lalousis George, the Chief commander of KOMAK and the instructors who put every effort into passing on their knowledge. The participating volunteers assembled from the EPOMEA teams of Egaleo, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos and Ikaria. Educational programs have already been planned for the next year, both indigenous in collaboration with the Navy as well as rope rescue schools in Larissa and Mt Olympus and expatriate in Malta and England.
